About

My recent work revolves around the concept of place through landscapes and how we shape ourselves in relation to it. Without defined geographical “roots,” I often reflect on origins and our connection to our environment—its invisible borders and in-between states. A yearning for the unknown, intertwined with memories held in the eye. The paradox of total detachment, yet a deep desire to belong.

Biography

Zoé Numan, a half-French, half-Dutch artist, was born in Paris and moved around France before relocating to Maastricht, Netherlands, to study philosophy. She discovered painting independently, outside her academic studies, and has pursued it ever since. She is currently completing an MFA at La Cambre in Brussels.

Drawn to moments or situations that carry a sense of mystery or wonder, her atmospheric paintings explore complex emotions and the silent communication that exists beyond words. Through her figurative approach, she questions the subtle boundary between reality and imagination, much like the experience of a daydream.
